I’m doing a seminar tomorrow evening on Social Networking, or Social Marketing or marketing on Social Networking sites. I think we need a shorter name for all this stuff.
It’s madness I tell you, Social Media Marketing Madness:
Facebooking you say? Tweeting your Peeps?
No. Not good.
I think Social Networking and Social Media Marketing will be around for a long time – but not necessarily Facebook and Twitter. WHAT? Are you KIDDING?
Well, remember Netscape? No, I didn’t think so.
Remember when getting “found online” meant getting a listing on the top page of Yahoo? And all you had to do was know someone who worked there?
No, I didn’t think so.
I do. And I’m not that old. I was in the industry back in the old days of the mid 1990s.
Honestly, I thought that the World Wide Web would be much less like the Wild Wild West by now. But there still are rules that constantly change, rules are broken, millions of people are swarming to it to find their “gold,” millions fail every day, and thousands succeed in ways most of us will never know.
I like Purposeful Online Marketing; sort of, but it’s long and hard to say.
Hmmm, so what would be a good name for blogging, Facebooking, Tweeting, posting YouTube videos, sharing pictures on Flickr, email marketing, etc, etc, etc, etc?
